Current center chair is oddgeir.tveiten@uia.no. Co-chair is abit.hoxha@uia.no.

WHAT WE ARE

Our aim is to foster a high-level international community of research and professional peers, to conduct innovative journalism research and education innovation for the benefit of the community and members' home institutions. Emphasis will be on on matters of globalization and digital transformation.

WHY

Since the coming of Web 2.0 and the 'social media' we commonly think of as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, SnapChat, TikTok and more, we have seen an increasing fragmentation of reasoned debate in the public sphere. Journalism seeks to define its place and purpose in this environment, but journalism across the world is not a uniform nor a consensus-based idea. What we perceive is a need to foster a research-driven dialog on the future role of journalism, in which we also engage in a critical examination of our models of society, models of journalism and models of normative thinking about the media and democracy.
