Professor Krüger will be speaking on the theme of Challenges to journalism education in South Africa.
Franz Krüger Adjunct Professor and former head of the Wits Centre for Journalism at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He worked in professional journalism for many decades, including as founding group editor of the East Cape News Agencies, an anti-apartheid service and as a senior member of the first post-apartheid editorial management team at the SABC. He holds a BA from UCT, an MA from City University, London and a PhD from Wits University. He is the author and co-author of three books, several book chapters, journal articles and many other publications. Among his previous positions are ombud for the Mail & Guardian, member of the SA Press Appeals Panel and founding director of the Wits Radio Academy. His research interests include ethics, radio, community media and journalism education.
